Lipstick Theatre (2014 winner of Outstanding New Student Organization) is Northwestern University's only student-run theatre company that focuses on women in every aspect of theatre. Despite making up the majority of those involved in theatre, most roles in shows (especially when it comes to complex, leading characters) are written for men. Lipstick focuses on producing plays that provide performance opportunities women, are written by female playwrights, and/or tackle women's issues. Lipstick encourages both women and men to get involved in their productions. Wit's cast is comprised of three female characters and two male characters, a ratio that is more representative of the gender demographics of the theatre community.
